 Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is helpful for anyone with busy, pressurized lifestyles and is a wonderful natural method of stress relief.  Using therapeutic, pure essential oils that are blended to suit you, (no pre-blended mass produced blends, mineral oils or artificial fragrances).  The amount of pressure used in this massage depends on the client’s personal preference, but it can be as deep or as light as you like.

This type of massage is very similar to Swedish massage but uses essential oils extracted from plants, trees, leaves, flowers, roots, bark and resins to enhance the massage effects.  These essential oils are sourced from reputable suppliers who are members of the Aromatherapy Trade Association.

When you attend a treatment with me for the first time, you will be asked to fill out a consultation form to ascertain if you have any contra-indications (reasons why you should not have a massage) and to help me choose which oils will suit you best. Certain medical conditions may require approval from your GP or health consultant before you can receive a massage treatment.

How do aromatherapy oils work?

Essential oils can enter the body through the skin, because their molecules are extremely small.  Warmth helps the skin absorbs essential oils more quickly and speeds up the take-up of the oils.   However, whether essential oils are used in a massage oil or in a bath, aromatic molecules waft into the air and enter the nostrils.  When these molecules hit the nerve receptors, they set off a reaction which results in brain activity.  Different oils can have different effects, some are stimulating, refreshing and some are more calming.

At Home you can enhance your massage treatments by using essential oils in your bath. After a consultation, I will be happy to give you recipes for suitable blends.

Oil burners can be used to vaporize essential oils into a room and create and a relaxing atmosphere.   Essential oils give off a subtle aroma and are not overpowering like some of the artificial fragrances.

Essential oils should not be taken internally or used in place of conventional medical care. Always consult your GP or health professional for medical attention and advice.
